Buxton (Bucky) L. Daniel died peacefully at his home in Morganton, GA on July 2, 2021. He was the son of the late Cecil K. Daniel Sr. and Mary B. Daniel of Glennville, GA. Bucky was raised in Glennville and attended high school at the Georgia Military Academy in College Park. He earned a degree in Finance from the University of Georgia Terry School of Business. After college, Bucky moved to Claxton, GA where he farmed and worked for the Department of Agriculture for several years, and during this time was named Farmer of the Year in Evans County. He began working for the Department of Defense at Fort Stewart in a civilian position and remained employed there for 36 years until his retirement. In the mid 1990's, Bucky moved to Savannah, GA where he and his wife Cathy were married. During his time in Savannah, Bucky was known for his true southern hospitality. He loved to entertain friends and family - welcoming all to enjoy his famous home-brewed "Bucky Beer" for which he grew his own hops, or perhaps wine he made from his own muscadine grapes, or his lively low country boils complete with music and singing by the Daniel brothers. Bucky loved to sing with his brother Cecil who led the musical accompaniment with guitar or piano. Bucky and Cecil were brothers and best friends for life. Following his retirement, Bucky moved from Savannah to Morganton, GA where he enjoyed the beautiful scenery and nature with his wife Cathy in the mountains of north Georgia. Bucky was a lifelong outdoorsman, and throughout his life he enjoyed camping, kayaking, fishing, and gardening. Bucky's good-natured humor, kind spirit and love of a good story endeared him to so many. He was always ready with a good joke or a punchline, finding the laughter in life and sharing his infectious smile. He will be fondly remembered by many friends and relatives for his happy demeanor and enthusiasm for life. Bucky is preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers Julian Daniel and Cecil K. Daniel Jr. Bucky is survived by his wife Catherine (Cathy) McDonald Daniel, children Margueritte Daniel, Laing Daniel, Lillian Daniel, and William Daniel; sisters-in-law Leslie Daniel, Dianne McDonald (Chris Small), Joan McKee (Scott), Elizabeth Damazo (Brad); grandchildren Shanea, Shanna and Austin Daniel; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Homestead Hospice for their extraordinary care, with particular gratitude to Bucky's nurse Carol and nursing assistants Heather, Hali, and Leanna. Further gratitude is extended to special friends of the family Suzanne Cone and Sandra Nix for their tireless support during Bucky's illness. A service of remembrance will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity of one's choice. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
