Mrs. Butts,
I am deeply moved by the news of Dr. Butts' death at age 59. I am reminded of the caring and empathetic service that you and Dr. Butts gave to my husband, Horace Polite, in 1985-86 as we fiercely battled cancer. Horace had his homegoing on January 1, 1987. Your endless love made our pain more bearable.

May the God of peace reward you richly with everything that you need as you adjust to life in the absence of your mate. My prayers are with you, with lots of love.

Dear Cathy and Sons,
Please accecpt my deepest and heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your loved one. We met both of you when we moved here from Rhode Island. We needed a physician immediately as my Husband was a diabetic. Dr. Butts was recommended to us and the friendship began and lasted through the death of my Husband and the retirement of Dr. Butts. What a great relationship it was and what a kind caring person he was. He was family orientated and that was important to us. He loved his family and all who came in contact with him knew that. His human side and sense of humor made him an unusual Doctor. What a man!!!
May God continue to lift you up in prayer and know that we love all of you.
Love,
Dotti A. Black

God is good, God is kind, and God knows best!

Ms. Butts, I remember the warm and wonderful love you and Dr. Butts expressed for each other during our time at Savannah State. The fact that I can remember those times lends credence to the glorious impact the two of you had on other people.

Dr. Butts always was a trailblazer. He always led the pack. In fact, sometimes he was so far ahead of the rest of us that he alone "was the pack!"

I believe that God blessed the two of you with each other. I also believe that God will allow the many, many memories of your life together to be "that rock on which you will be able to stand."

My sincere hope for my former "Doc" is that God speedily gives his soul rest in his kingdom. And, for you and the remainder of your family, I hope that you will soon be able to rejoice in the life you shared with "Doc!"

I first met Dr. Butts when he and I were in the 6th grade in Sparta and we became friends at that time. It was a friendship that lasted through high school, college and our adult years. I will always remember him as a warm, caring and compassionate person. He and I shared an interest in history and politics and over the years had many long conversations on the subjects, especially as it pertained to black history and Hancock County.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Cathy and his family at this unfortunate loss. This is a loss not only to his family, but to the community at large.
