Vernon Green

Carroll T. Greene, Jr. was a natural leader. He treasured his family, family history, genealogy and the ties that bind us. He promoted African_American history and culture because he treasured it too, and felt it was too precious to lose. Carroll shared his success with us. In all that he accomplished, he made us proud to be a relative, an associate and a friend. He had the respect, love and admiration of the entire family and he knew it. We will miss Carroll. We will miss his face, his grace, words of wisdom, humor and gentle embrace. He had 75 years but still he left us far too soon. Respectfully submitted your extended family: Vernon Samuel Green, Gerard A. Green Jr. and family, Ida Pearl Green, Mr. and Dr. Everett Davis

Carroll acquired several outstanding artifacts for the Acacia collection from me. I will remember him as a kind, intelligent and delightful gentleman. It was a privilege to have known him. My condolences to his family.

Carroll and I were colleagues when he was the founding director of The Banneker-Douglass Museum in Annapolis and, at the same time was executive director of the Maryland Commission on Afro-American Commission History and Culture. Carroll was a truly gifted pioneer.

OUR SINCERE SYMPATHY TO THE GREENE FAMILY

We had the deepest respect for Carroll's knowledge of African American history and art and were avid students. But we will especially miss his sense of humor, kindness, and all the good times at all the great places we would go to eat when we were in Savannah!

Carroll was a gentleman and a scholar. I knew him through his attendance at the Unitarian Universalist Church.

He will be remembered by me as one of the most interesting people I have ever known. His knowledge of African folk art was vast.

His passing is a loss not only to his family, but to the entire Savannah community.
