Catherine Sample Obituary

Catherine Johnson Sample -Port Wentworth, GA- Catherine Johnson Sample, 70, died Sunday at Candler Hospital. She was born October 26, 1935 in Naranja, FL, Dade County. She moved to Georgia at nine days old. Our Mother left to go to a new world of no pain. She had battled multiple myloma with Summit Cancer care for 18 years. We have been so blessed by her love and the love of the friends and family she brought into our lives. She worked at Sears for 25 years until she was retired under medical in 1990. She was an active member of the Rebel Chapter of the American Business Women Assoc. since 1969. She was active member of Beta Sigma Phi Georgia Zeta Master Chapter since 1971. When she retired from Sears she joined the Sears Retirees Club and has been treasurer for the pass ten years. She has been a member of Port Wentworth First Baptist Church for 63 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles Gordon Sample; Father and Mother, Otis H. and Ruth U. Johnson. Leaving to cherish her memory and love of life and music two daughters, Catherine Virginia Sample and Carol Denise Finch; four grandsons, Derrick C. Sample (Ginna), Joshua L. Sample, Kyle L. Finch, Tyler B. Finch; three great grandchildren, C. Draven Sample, Kristin M. Sample and P. Morgan Sample; Brothers and Sisters, Otis Charles Johnson (Pat) Marietta, GA., Robert Ray Johnson (Harriett) of Savannah, GA., Mildred Ruth Dees (Reggie) of Port Wentworth, GA., and Sandra L. Taylor (Mike) of Tybee Island, GA., many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special thank you to all that made Mother's life very special and the care she received from Summit Cancer Care and the 4th floor at Candler Hospital. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice Savannah Inc. or Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer and research pavilion. Visitation: 6 - 8 a.m. Tuesday at Fairhaven Funeral Home. Service: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home with interment at Forest Lawn. Denise, Mildred and Sandra, So sorry for the loss of your Mother and Sister. Denise our talks at the hospital meant a lot to me.We shared a lot of our troubles together.
Just know she is no longer suffering, and remember the good times and memories, this she would like for you to do.

Not only has it been a joy to have worked with Catherine, but now being a part of Sears' retirement group, it has been refreshing and also an encouragement each time I saw her. She had overcomed so much, just knowing her has helped to build up my faith. She will be missed. Remember John 5:28,29.
