Dale was one of the first people I met after coming to Savannah almost 20 years ago. He was a good friend, and always had useful advice to offer. ( I had never met any one who ran into more "deals" !) I can't drive down LaRoche Ave without thinking of him . He will be missed.

The last time I saw Dale was 2001 before I moved to Dallas. I ran into Dale almost weekly at the Post Office on Eisenhower and he was always cheerful. The last thing he asked me to do was to call my childhood friend, Suzanne
Stricland Smith, whom I had not talked to in years. I guess I should do now what he asked of me so long ago. He was a wonderful witness for his faith in God. God
bless you Dale.

Several years ago Dale told me this poem:
Don't walk before me
I may not follow
Don't walk behind me
I may not lead
Walk beside me
And be my friend
Dale was the true embodiment of this poem. I am sorry for his health problems but happy to know he is with the Lord.

To Sleep
O Soft emablmer of the still midnight.
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,
Our gloom-pleas'd eyes, embower'd from the light,
Enshaded in forgetfulness divine:
O soothest Sleep! if so it please thee, close
In Midst of this thine hymn my willing eyes,
Or wait the amen, ere thy poppy throws
Around my bed its lulling charities.
Then save me, or the passed day will shine
Upon my pillow, breeding many woes,-
Save me from curious Conscience, that still lords
It's strenght for darkness, burrowing like a mole;
Turn the key deftly in the oiled wards,
And seal the hushed Casket of my Soul.

I had the priviledge of knowing Dale while working at EM Industries in Pt. Wentworth (we were one of his customers) and just want to tell the family that he truly lived out his Christian faith -- talking openly about the Lord, smiling, friendly to everyone and always with took time to talk with folks even though he had a very busy schedule. He never complained nor said an unkind word about anyone. Praise the Lord that he is a Christian and is now with the Lord. I hope you will find comfort in that TRUTH. I'm sure he's already heard Jesus say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant...."

Vital spark of heav'nly flame,
Quit, oh, quit, this mortal frame!
Trembling, hoping, ling'ring, flying,
Oh, the pain, the bliss of dying!
Cease, fond Nature, cease thy strife,
And let me languish into life!
Hark! they whisper; Angels say,
Sister Spirit, come away.
What is this absorbs me quite,
Steals my senses, shuts my sight,
Drowns my spirits, draws my breath?
Tell me, my Soul! can this be Death?
The world recedes; it disappears;
Heav'n opens on my eyes; my ears
With sounds seraphic ring:
Lend, lend your wings! I mount! I fly!
O Grave! where is thy Victory?
O Death! where is thy Sting?

Dear Dale,
You are my best friend. If I hadn't met you so many years ago, I wouldn't have all I have now. My life turned out better than I could have hoped and I owe it all to your teachings about faith.
Thank you for teaching me about God and trusting in him.
I will always miss you and think of the times we shared over a decade of friendship.
Your last words to me - changed my life.
Rest in peace. I will see you again in heaven.

To my beloved Brother in Christ and childhood friend. The time the Lord gave us together this past year as you suffered through this terrible illness with courage and strength has truly been amazing. Words can't express how much my life has been so blessed with having a tremendous friend and prayer partner. I will miss our moments together, but I know we will be together again soon. You will always live in my heart my brother. I'll see you on the other side. To live is Christ to die is gain.
He lives,
Bro. Don

Dale was a great friend to me in the 1980's when I lived in the Savannah area. He gave me the inspiration to start my own company as he had done with the courier service. Without his friendship I doubt I would be where I am today with a great foundation of faith in God and a wonderful business that has grown into a multi-million dollar company. I wish I was able to attend the service, but I am glad to know he has moved on to be with Jesus who he so loved.

I will always remember the boy who was full of energy and cheer, growing up in the neighborhood with "the Fernwood Gang".
