Erik Skaanning Obituary

Erik Skaanning, 77, of High Rock Drive, North Attleboro; formerly of Foxboro and Hyde Park, died on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of Helen C. (Conant) Skaanning to whom he was married on August 16, 1952.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 25, 1928, he was a son of the late Mads and Anna Maria (Hansen) Skaanning. Raised and educated in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston, Mr. Skaanning was a 1946 graduate of Hyde Park High School. He resided in Foxboro for twenty years prior to moving to North Attleboro in 1986.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the World War II era from his enlistment in 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1948.

Mr. Skaanning was employed as a printer in the newspaper industry having worked for the Dedham Transcript and the Middlesex News for his entire 53 years in the publishing industry.

An animal lover, he enjoyed the companionship of his beloved pets over the years.

He will be remembered for his passion for yard work, his love for camping with family and friends and for his woodworking projects.

He was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Foxboro where he was a member of the church softball league, sang in the church choir and served his church family as a Deacon.

More recently, Mr. Skaanning was a member of the Lincoln Christian Fellowship in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he leaves two daughters: Julie A. Shorey of North Attleboro and Jodi E. Medeiros of Mansfield; a son: Erik Skaanning, Jr. of Waltham; nine grandchildren; a brother: Roy Skaanning of Cromwell, Connecticut and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Margie Fegan.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation with Veteran’s Honors on Saturday, September 30, 2006 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 for an advance reservation for such free transportation.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service Celebrating His Life on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 1:30 PM in the Church of Emmanuel, 106 Central Street, Foxboro.

Burial will be private.

Following the memorial service, an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lincoln Christian Fellowship Building Fund, 1619 Lonsdale Avenue, Lincoln, Rhode Island 02865.
