Frank Ivy Obituary

Frank R. Ivy - SAVANNAH - Frank R. Ivy, 81, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at his residence with his family at his bedside under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was preceded in death in 2009 by his beloved daughter, Susan Ivy McCrory of Charlotte, NC. Frank was born on December 20, 1930 in Clay County Mississippi, the only child of the late Tom Gates Ivy and Opal Jasper Ivy. After graduating top of his class from Siloam High School, he attended Hines Junior College before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1950. After his military service, he enrolled in Mississippi State University and was a member of the first graduating class of the newly formed school of forestry, graduating in 1957 and remaining a lifelong bulldog fan. After a successful career, he retired in 1996 as Regional Procurement Manager for Stone Container Corporation. He was a member of the American Forestry Association and the Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Louisiana State Forestry Association. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, an avid boater, fisherman and hunter, and an enthusiastic Republican. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Savannah, GA. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Beverly Sansing Ivy; his son, Robert Ivy of Savannah, GA; his daughter, Sharon Ivy Weiss and husband Scott of Washington, DC. Also surviving are grandchildren, Andy and Ben Hale, Sarah, Helen and Emily McCrory, and Geoffrey, Gates and Jeremy Ivy. Frank will be greatly missed by his beloved canine companion Sissy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service (2 - 3P.M.) Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, (Mercy Blvd) Funeral Service: 3:00P.M. at the church with Pastor John Hopkins officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Richmond Hill, Ga. (Highway 17). Memorial Contributions: In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 12391 Mercy Blvd. Savannah, GA. 31419 The Family would like to thank the nursing staff at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Dr. Randy Bottner, Dr. Anthony Costrini and Dr. Jonie Almedia. Sending love hugs and sympathy over Frank's passing to Beverly, Bob, Sharon and the rest of his family and friends. Frank was my Dad's special and much-loved cousin. As a child I have fond and lovely memories of our families' rare, shared times together.
