Franklin Williams Obituary

Franklin Horatio Williams Jr., 84, passed into eternal rest at home on Thursday, April 13th, 2017 after fighting the good fight against cancer. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 56 years, Lucy Beatrice Williams, and a son, Thomas Franklin Williams.

Frank (also known as F.H.), was born October 28th, 1932, in Hartford, Alabama to Franklin H. Williams, Sr. and Lessie Bell Jewel. His siblings (all deceased), were Aubrey Williams, Mitchell Williams, Lorene Williams, Sara Gene Clark, Sybil Baxter, and Margaret Smyly. His surviving children are Dianne England, (Gary) of Huntsville, AL, Jeff Williams, (Sheila) of Concord, NC, and Chuck Williams, (Holli) and Cindy Stavely, (Chris), both of Savannah.

He was very proud of his seven grandchildren: Christopher England, Kayce True, Andrew England, Jennifer Watkins, James Williams, and Shelby and Marissa Stavely. An eighth granddaughter, Caroline Williams is due later this year. Frank had eight great grandchildren in whom he took great delight: Allie and Hailey England, Kayla, Daisy, and Isaac True, Savannah and Charlotte England, and Lucas Watkins. Two other great grandchildren are due later this year. He also had several nieces and nephews.

A member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church, he was very active in his Sunday school class. During the Korean War he served in the Navy, helping to train Naval Aviation cadets. In 1994, he retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield after nearly 30 years of service. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Savannah and was a member of Hospice Savannah's Life Goes On support group.

Frank's life was one of service and devotion to others. He strove to put God first, and he was an avid witness for Christ. He was a deeply caring, patient, and forgiving man with a heart of gold who always sought to encourage others, even in the midst of his own trials.

A humble man by nature, he was an excellent role model for his family, teaching them the importance of character, responsibility, and love for others. He was also an excellent provider for his family, ensuring that they were never in need or want for anything, and he often used his handyman skills to help his family and others. He was the anchor and rock of the family, and he touched so many hearts in so many ways.

The family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors, co-workers, medical professionals, Hospice, and home care workers who helped encourage Frank and the family during the years, especially during his cancer fight.

Remembrances: Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Pall Bearers: Andrew England, James Williams, Randy Watkins, Ben Goggins, Dalton (Noot) Tisdale, and John Mahoney.

Honorary Pall Bearers: The gentlemen of the Sunday school class at Windsor Forest Baptist Church.

I just now saw this and want all of you to know how sorry I am. I had the privilege of working with Frank at BCBS for 15 years and have always considered him a friend. He was the epitome of a southern gentleman and loved his family more than anything in the world. I know that you will all miss him terribly. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I was fortunate to know Frank for 30+ years. We worked together at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia and I always thought of him as my older brother. No matter what the problem or situation, I could talk with Frank and felt better. We discussed his faith in God many times, so I know he is with his beloved Bea. Even though he suffered with cancer many years, he always said how blessed he had been. I will miss you Frank.

Aulmon and I thought the world of Mr. Williams. He was the epitome of what a good neighbor and friend should be. We were fortunate to have known him. He always handled everything with much sweetness and grace. How nice the world would be if there were more men like him in it.
