Linda was born on Nov. 5, 1940, in Hendrick, Iowa to Donal and Helen (Minnie) Smith. She was part of a large family with many brothers and sisters. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School.
Linda grew up living and working on the farm. Upon moving to North Iowa, she dedicated over 20 years of service to Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehabilitation, where she worked in Dietary Management.
Linda was joined in marriage with Robert DeFord on Dec. 16, 1960. Their union was blessed with four children: Robyn Carlson of Nora Springs, Russell DeFord of Rudd, Rick (Linda) DeFord of Rockford, and Ronald (Brandy) DeFord of Mason City. Grandchildren include Nathan Carlson, Dylan, Hunter, Rebecca and Bree DeFord. She had one great-granddaughter, Makynna Lynn Carlson.
Linda was an active member of the Faith Bible Chapel in Charles City. She enjoyed doing word searches, playing cards, spending time with her family, and cooking for her loved ones. She also enjoyed volunteering as part of the Iowa SHARE program in Charles City. However, most of her free time was spent with her beloved dog, Chico.
She is preceded in death by her mother Helen and her youngest son Ronald (Jake).

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. A year ago, people kept telling me that time heals all wounds. I didn't believe them, but now I can honestly say it does. God has two special angels up there with him now!!! Shirley Carlson and Linda DeFord!!!
