Isaac Franklin Obituary

Elder Isaac Franklin - SAVANNAH - Isaac Franklin was born on January 20, 1940, in St. Petersburg, Florida to the late Gus Franklin Sr., and Myrtle Watkins Franklin. He is also predeceased by one brother, Gus Franklin, J.. He was educated in public schools of Gadsden County, Quincy, Florida. Upon his transition into adulthood, Isaac moved back to St. Petersburg where he met Betty Parker and to this relationship three children were born, Christopher, Shari, and Kenon. In 1964, Isaac, affectionately known as "Kitty'', was transferred to Savannah by his employer, Morrison Cafeteria, "Kitty" desired to be a "Sous Chef' and though he didn't have the opportunity to pursue a culinary degree, he was gifted to cook and cater any special meal or dish you possibly wanted. His love of cooking even sparked his entrepreneurial spirit by the opening of his very own restaurant, F & F Fine Foods. In the early '70's, "Kitty" was again transferred to Atlanta, Georgia. In 2001, because of declining health, he retired his chef hat after more than 40 years of untiring and dedicated service. He joined the House of God in 1986, His church affiliations include serving as Evangelist, Pastor, and before his demise, the, pinnacle of Elder, He was mentored by Pastor Cannon and Pastor Singleton. In 1988, Elder Isaac Franklin was united in Holy Matrimony to Mother Ella Grier, to this union one son was born, Derek. This union was blessed with a total of five children. On April 6, 2009, 6:30 PM, surrounded by his family, Elder Franklin entered into eternal rest at Odyssey House in Decatur, Georgia, under the care of Hospice services. A lover of family and God, he graced the lives of many throughout his life with patience, tranquility, compassion and humor. He leaves to cherish precious memories his wife, Ella Grier Franklin; three sons: Christopher Franklin, Sr., Kenon Franklin, Sr., and Derek Franklin, all of Atlanta, GA.; two daughters, Shari (Curview) Baker of Covington, GA and Angela Johnson of Lithonia, GA; an adopted daughter, Cathy Redding; fourteen grandchildren; Christopher Jr., Candace, Isaac, Brittany, Kashyra, Evan, Kenneth, Kendall, Courtney, Kenon, Jr., Tre', Courtney, Aniah, and Carlos; one great-grandchild, Kaylee; stepmother, Hester Blakely of Savannah, GA; two brothers: Jemmy Franklin and Wesley Jeffery, both of Hendersonville, NC; three sisters: Augusta (Marion) Osborne of Savannah, GA; Constance McKinney of Hendersonville, NC, and Patricia (Darryl) Richardson of Savannah, GA; his mother-in-law, Mother Carrie Grier; two brothers-in-law: James (Pastor Mary) Grier and Bishop Winston (Pastor Betty Sue) Grier; four sisters-in-law: LaChelle Franklin, Evangelist Lavinia (Johnnie Lee) Franklin, Pastor Agnes Berry, and Pastor Mary Jones; a grandaunt and uncle, Ethel Lee (Joseph) Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2009 at New Zion Baptist Church, 114 Fair Street (West Savannah). Interment: Magnolia Gardens Cemetery.
