Jack Slater Obituary

Jack D. Slater - LEXINGTON, KY - Jack D. Slater, 86, died Sat., Aug. 30, 2008 at home in Lexington, KY. He was born June 20, 1922 in Moline, KS, the son of the late Albert James Slater and Ida Arlena Ramsey Slater and called Oklahoma home. He was a graduate of Seminole High School, Seminole, OK and the University of Oklahoma with BS and MS degrees in Chemistry and Physics. He was a member of Phil Beta Kappa Honorary Society and several professional fraternities and organizations. He was retired from Kaiser Agricultural Chemical Division of Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Company in Savannah, GA. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. He is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Betty Montgomery Slater; two stepsons, Tracy Stone, Georgetown, KY and Dudley Stone, Lexington, KY; one stepdaughter, Sandra (Don) Mather, also of Lexington, KY; two grandsons, Jon Slater, Windsor, CO and Eric Slater, Broken Arrow, OK; two step grandsons, Christopher Mather, Lexington, KY and Keefe Stone, Georgetown, KY. He is also survived by a nephew, Douglas Mann, Tulsa, OK; nieces, Debi (Marc) Wolin, Grove, OK and Karen (Bruce) Cooley, Pallayup, WA; and several great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a son, James David Slater and sisters, Betty Slater Northam and Alean Slater Raper. Visitation will be 5-9 pm Thur., Sept. 4, 2008 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. A graveside memorial service will be held 11 am Fri., Sept. 5, 2008 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Fayette County Humane Society, Chapter 345 AARP, Hospice of the Bluegrass, or your favorite charity.
