James McGowan Obituary

James Edward McGowan, Jr. "Eddie" - SAVANNAH - Eddie passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 1:33 a.m. at North East Carolina Medical Center, in Concord, North Carolina after a short illness. Eddie was born Dec. 12, 1959 in Savannah, Ga., and was raised in Savannah, Ga., and spent most of his life here. He attended Windsor Forest High School where he had a passion for acting, being the class clown and getting into trouble whenever possible. His most favorite surroundings were the sunny beaches of Florida. You would find him resting in a nice patch of sand lost for words at the beautiful sight of dolphins playing. He also enjoyed being on the St. John's riverbank searching for manatees. Eddie loved to have fun while partying on St. Patty's Day and letting loose during the ever popular Georgia - Florida game. He loved life, his family and friends. He worked at the "Little S" on Shipyard Rd. and Kroger where he will forever be known as "Mr. Eddie". Preceded in death by his mother, Lessie H. Parham; dad, Jerry W. Parham; father, James E. McGowan Sr., "Mac"' and companion of many years Seth Thomas of Florida. Eddie is survived by Sister and Brother in law, Wanda and Jimmy Poppell; sister, Donna McGowan; sister and brother in law, Melissa and Matthew Hagan; niece, Emily Grace Hagan (Eddie's "Miss Gracie"); nephew and niece, Jamie and Kristjan Poppell; nephew and niece, Jeremy and Malisa Poppell; great nephews and niece, Bailey, Jillian and Grayson Poppell; aunt, Janet Webber; companion Gerald Furr, their little pet, Sophie. There are also many cousins and family friends that he loved and cared about. Our family will always remember our brother, uncle and nephew as a lover of life and family, and the truest friend. Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Rev. Beth Boilott, officiating. Interment: private. Remembrances: Humane Society of Savannah. Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C.
