To the Goldkrand family,

My name is Farra Isaacson, and I am a distant cousin- John's great-grandfather Betzalel was my great-great-grandmother Ruchel Goldkrantz's brother. John and I had been in contact several years ago regarding the family tree, and, (while googling the family names, which I do on occasion), I just discovered his loss. I was very saddened to hear this, and I would like to extend the deepest sympathies of our whole branch of the family. All our best.

I am a former resident of John's from Albany, NY. His example as a physician was what inspired me. Unlike any other he taught by example, worked harded than any resident, respected everybody from nurses to residents to other physicians to patients. From him I learned how to take care of patients, surgery, and the need to always put the patient first. Unlike any other doctor he inspired all the residents. Upon learning of his passing from this world I was sad but I will keep him and his family in my prayers that he may find a reward with God for his good works here. May God bless you. ejd

AM, Judith and Howard,

Mae D'Agostino called me today to let me know of Dr. Goldkrand's passing. I can't believe it. My heart, prayers and thoughts go out to you. May God comfort you in this time of great loss.

I cannot tell you how sad I am at his passing. I enjoyed my years working with Dr. Goldkrand and the opportunities he gave me to learn and improve my skills as an administrative assitant. He was not only a great man who valued his family and honored his God, but a great doctor and teacher. I loved the way you made me feel like a part of your family. I remember going to lunch with Dr. Goldkrand and his Mother for her birthday at the Real Seafood Company just before he left for Savannah. Another special memory is Tammy and I staying with you and participating in a Passover Seder at your home in Savannah. I will always treasure that memory. I also remember the time Kris and I stayed with you when she came down to speak at Memorial Medical Center and I got to tag along. AM your tour of Savannah and your hospitality were very special.

My prayers are for God's comfort and peace to be upon you. May your memories bring you comfort also.

AM and family,

Your husband wrote such a lovely message in the memory book for my late husband, Doug. I know Doug truly enjoyed their professional collaborations dealing with your husband's research. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear AM,

I cannot describe how sad I was to learn of John's passing. He was a superb physician, a brilliant man and a person who truly lived the Golden Rule.

I feel fortunate that I had the chance to speak to him last month. One of the last things he said to me on the phone when we were talking about my son and your children and grandchildren was: "What better thing can we leave our children than an excellent education." I shall always remember him as a man of integrity and intellectual curiosity. His family was the love of his life. I will keep you and your entire family in my prayers. Mae

Dearest AM and family,

My deepest sympathies. I looked up to John and also to AM because together they collected works that meant something to them. That ideal is what inspired all of us at Oglethorpe Row Gallery to keep at it. I think about John and AM everyday as I go up and down my stairs. They inspired me to start collecting work that means something to me. Albeit my collection is far smaller, but from John I know it is not about the size of the collection, but the lifetime of memories and experiences it will take to build. John and AM's stairway is a tribute to love, adventure, life and loss. From the bottom of my heart I thank John and of course AM for being an inspiration. Bless you John. AM and family, my prayers are with you.

To the Golkrand Family,

I was deepley saddened after reading of the death of Dr. Goldkrand. I often referred to him as "my knight in shining armor" as he was the physician who so professionally and expertly managed my difficult triplet pregnancy 16 years ago. Without him, I would not have been blessed with three healthy and beautiful daughters. I have thought of him many times over the years, remembering his direct but always caring manner. His passion for medicine and drive to secure the best outcome for his patients. He will always hold a very special place in my heart. Please accept my sincerest sympathy.

I worked on many projects with Dr. Goldkrand as a graphic artist preparing illustrations for publication. He was amazing -using the newest statistical computer programs to display data for research papers. We got know each other a bit & talked sports cars a lot & about the Mini Cooper he custom ordered. Dr. Goldkrand was the only doctor I worked with that sent me a sympathy card when my father died a couple years ago. I admired him, respected him, had fun working with him & will miss him.

AM, Judith, Howard and Beth,

I was stunned and shocked to hear of Dr. Goldrand’s passing. I can’t believe he is gone. Upon returning from a week in Florida with my mother, I was told that he called for me on Friday before his death. I wish I had been there to receive his call, so that I had that much to hold onto from him. I did talk to him, however, on my birthday, December 22. After hearing your birthday wish to me on phone mail that day, AM, I called to thank you, and spoke to him briefly. He was somewhat like a father to me, even though he was only 15 years older. I will miss him greatly. I have many fond memories. I hope to have much contact with you in the future. I will see you soon. My love and condolences to each of you.

My wife and I were deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Dr. Goldkrand's passing. Dr. Goldkrand attended many of the classes I taught in my years in Savannah, and we would converse about different topics whenever I had the pleasure of running into him around town. He was always warm and kind, and had a very endearing and irrepressible enthusiasm to discuss (and sometimes vigorously debate) with me those subjects that mattered deeply to him--like Judaism. He was a thoughtful and vibrant person, a very special man. I know he will be sorely missed by countless people. Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Goldkrand, and to Judith and Howard. May Dr. Goldkrand's abundant good deeds be a merit and a source of strength and inspiration to you, and may his memory always be for a blessing.

To the Goldkrand Family words cannot express the sorrow that I feel for all of you. I was just talking to Dr Goldkrand the other day and was knocking on his door Saturday Morning to say hello to him only to find out he had a heart attack and had passed away. He was a good man and we all loved him so. We will miss him dearly and alway remember his kindness. May God Bless your family and may your sorrow turn to joy because he is in a better place now a place where he will reunite with all those who have passed before his time. Remember that joy comes in morning and sadiness will soon pass away, but his memory is here to stay.

January 2, 2006

My friendship with John began during our freshman year at Bowdoin. During our 4 years in Brunswick, we were classmates, fellow biology majors, fraternity brothers, and pre-med student. Our next 4 years were spent together at Tufts medical school, where John prepared for a career in OB-GYN and perinatology. I witnessed his intorduction and 42-year marriage to his spouse, AM, and recently visited the couple in their wonderful abode in Savannah. John and AM were active in their community and donated time, energy, and money to Bowdoin College. John's many accomplishments are highlighted by googling him on the internet. I shall miss this tireless, energetic physician and teacher who gave so much of himself to others.
