Mary Holmes

1928 - 2016

Mary Chris Christine Holmes - SAVANNAH - Chris Holmes passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a brief illness. Born Mary Christine Blackburn on March 25, 1928 in Screven County. She was the daughter of James Felton and Lillian Boddiford Blackburn. After her father's premature death, Chris, her mother and her siblings moved to Savannah. She attended Commercial High School; she was a member of Ardsley Park Baptist Church and was the Treasurer of the Women's Auxiliary of the Alee Temple many years. After a long career in banking, she retired as an Executive of Johnson, Lane, Space, Smith & Co., Inc. She was preceded by her parents; her husband, James A. Holmes, Sr., her brother Rabun Blackburn; her sister and best friend, Will Ella Anderson; a granddaughter, Rachel Scroggin; great grandchildren, Graham and Lilly Kaiser. She is survived by her double first cousin, Buff Blackburn Kramer; loving caregivers, daughter, Rebecca O. Scroggin and son-in-law, Frank Scroggin of Wilmington Island. A son, Danny Kaiser and daughter-in-law, Susan of Statesboro; a stepson, Jimmy Holmes of Savannah; a brother, James B. Blackburn (Mercer) of Savannah; grandchildren, Lamar Scroggin of Faulkville, Phil Scroggin of Rincon, Christy Forrester (Noel) of Franklin, Shanda Reid (Jerry) of Pooler, Jeff Kaiser (Kristi) of Glennville, Scott Kaiser (Kim) of Statesboro, Josh Kaiser (Kimberly) of Statesboro and Molly Holmes of Washington, DC; 16 great-grandchildren and one great- great-granddaughter, Roxanne Scroggin; special friend, Marilyn Tricoglou and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, August 1 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The reverend Noel Forrester of the Franklin Church of God will be officiating the service with the Reverend David C. Stanton of Radiant life.
