Miriam Christine Burke McBath Shuman Cheek - SAVANNAH - Miriam Christine Burke McBath Shuman Cheek, 84, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2014. She was born in Screven County on February 11, 1929 and spent most of her young life in Savannah, Columbus, Georgia and Newport News, Virginia, before returning to Savannah to complete high school. She continued to live in Savannah until moving to Rincon in the late 1970's. Miriam is predeceased by her parents, Park C. Burke and J. W. and Christine Smith Harley; husbands Robert L. Shuman and Horace L. Cheek, Jr.; and two year old son, Jeffrey Lee Shuman. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple of Savannah, the Christian Women's Club, First Baptist Church of Rincon, and many other professional and civic organizations. Miriam loved her Lord and always turned to him. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family, friends and the comfort of home. She was always quick to share and give to others. Miriam was a breast cancer survivor of 42 years. Survivors include daughter, Robin Shuman Bragg; grandsons, Robert Calvin and Avery Kendall Bragg; and many dear friends. Remembrances: Building Fund at First Baptist of Rincon, Susan G. Komen For the Cure, or a charity of your choice. Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Crematory in Garden City, Ga. Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home and Crematory, with Rev. Greg Hartzog officiating.
