Ralph Bailey Obituary

Ralph Marion Bailey (Mr.B) - HAGAN - Ralph Marion Bailey (Mr. B) born August 28, 1936, 72, former Mayor of Hagan, Ga., died on August 28, 2008, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seaward and Lillie Mae Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a native of Bryan County and a graduate of Bryan County High School Class of 1954. He retired from the insurance business. For the past 25 years he was the owner and operator of Mr. B¿¿s in Hagan, Ga. He currently served as city councilman for the City of Hagan. He formerly served as city councilman and Mayor for 12 years. Mr. Bailey retired from the Georgia Army National Guard after 33 years service. During his enlistment with the National Guard, he was awarded the Georgia Commendation Medal along with numerous other awards and commendations. At his retirement, the Ralph Bailey Dining Facility was named in his honor, the first and only building named for a retiring Guardsman in the National Guard Training Center at Fort Stewart, Ga. Mr. Bailey then returned to Fort Stewart and served for seven years as the Food Service Director with the Youth Challenge Program until he came home to Hagan, where he and his wife, Sandra, operated Mr. B¿¿s on a fulltime basis. Survivors: his wife, Sandra Bailey of Hagan; two sons, Josh Bailey of Hagan and Ralph Bailey, Jr., of Beaufort, SC; one daughter, Lillie Lynn May and husband, George, of Land of Lakes, FL; two sisters, Joann Starling and husband, Ted, of Brooklet, GA., and Carolyn Wisniewski of Houston, TX; three step-daughters, Brenda and Wayne Bradley, Becky Pinckard, and Teresa and Jay Stewart, all of Claxton; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral: Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., at J. Mellie Nesmith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial: Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Grandsons, Sam Bailey, Adam May, Wayne Bradley, Jr., Seth Blocker and Casey Pinckard, and nephew, Scott Starling.
