Robert Fennell Obituary

Purlear, NC - The Rev. Robert Lawson Bob Fennell, Sr., 78, of Purlear Road, died Friday, November 26, 2004 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston- Salem NC. Bob Fennell was born December 9, 1925 in Bryan County, GA, to Dewey Samson and Lillian Mason Fennell. Bob graduated from Richard Arnold High School in Savannah, GA and attended Armstrong State University for two years. In 1951, Bob Fennell became a forester with International Paper Company located in Richmond Hill, GA. After thirty years of employment, Bob retired from International Paper Company in 1981. He was ordained as a Baptist minister on July 16, 1961 and served various churches for 30 years. He was a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in GA. Bob was founder and 1st President of the Richmond Hill Lions Club and was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was wounded in action while serving in Germany. Bob Fennell rece ived an Honorable Discharge in 1946, as well as a Purple Heart, a Military Service Medal, and three Bronze Stars. Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Fennell; and a sister, Connie Frere. Surviving are his wife, Betty Grant Fennell; one son, Robert L. Fennell, Jr., of Richmond Hill, GA; one step-son, Jeff Dockery and wife, Sheri, of Franklin; one step-daughter, Joanie Haney and husband, Buck, of Wilkesboro; three brothers, Dewey Fennell of Atlanta, GA, Samuel Fennell of Auburndale, FL and Don Fennell of Vero Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews, and other family members. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the Yadkin Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Harless and the Rev. Sam Davis officiating. Burial with military rites by VFW Post 1142 was in the Church Cemetery.
