Troy Fields Obituary

Troy Denton Fields, Jr. went to his eternal home on January 23, 2018 at the Veteran's Victory House, Walterboro, SC, from a long illness with FTD. He was born in Savannah, GA, August 21, 1944, graduating from Savannah High School, in 1963. After graduation he enlisted in the USMC and served proudly aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga until 1963. He went to work with Savannah Electric and Power Co. in 1971 and retired in 2003. Through the years of living in Savannah, Pooler, Bloomingdale and retiring to Statesboro, GA, he obtained many friends whom he loved to visit and talk to. He loved to hunt and had many happy days of quiet reflection sitting in his stand. He said that was the time he could be still and talk to the Lord. He also loved his job; he was very good at finding and getting power back on for everyone. He was nicknamed by his crew as Poppa Smurf. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Statesboro, GA. He served in many positions as a former member and deacon of Rothwell Baptist Church, Pooler, GA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy Denton Fields, Sr. and Mahla Rogers Fields. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jacqueline Jordan Fields; one son, John Ryan (Sheri) Fields; five grandchildren, John Ryan Fields, II, Jordan Renee` Fields, Kaitlyn Rebecca M. Fields, Amanda Willis, Alana Cooler; four great grandchildren, Emily Grace, Hadlee Chea, Holden Connor and Colton John; two sisters, Judith K. (Everett) Goethe and Shirley Sanders; two brothers-in-law, Ralph E. (Sandy) Jordan, Clarence Jordan III, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin 3 pm Saturday, January 27, 2018 and A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4 pm at Rothwell Baptist Church with Rev. Devon Bell officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to FTD at www.FTD.org or your favorite charity. Flanders Morrison Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
