Wilbur Martin Obituary

Wilbur E. Martin - SAVANNAH - Wilbur Ernest Martin, 90, of Savannah, Georgia, and formerly of Council Grove, Kansas, died Wednesday evening, January 23, 2008, at Candler Hospital. Born in Milford, Kansas, he was a son of the late Arthur Martin and the late Gertrude Rodiger Martin. Mr. Martin was of the Methodist faith and was retired from the State of Kansas Highway Department. He was a hard worker all of his life and one time, while working full-time at the Western Auto in Council Grove, he would help his father and mother-in-law at the Hayes House during the breakfast, lunch and evening rush periods. Mr. Martin was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II. He was a former VFW Post Commander in Council Grove. Surviving are his son, Danny W. Martin and his wife, Jillia, of Savannah, Georgia; two grandsons, Sean Martin and Shannon Martin; seven grandchildren, one sister, Thelma Breese of Council Grove, Kansas, and one brother, Chester Martin of Copperas Cove, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Sunday evening at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Council Grove. Funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning in the chapel of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home conducted by The Reverend Larry Buss. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
