Harold D. Tiffany, age 90, of
Hayward, WI passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Waters Edge Care Center in Hayward.
Harold D. Tiffany was born March 30, 1935, in Ashland, WI the son of Howard and Violet (Mungovan) Tiffany. He was raised in Hayward and was active in various sports. Harold was proud of the fact that his high school basketball team from 1953 held the best record in Hayward Basketball history for almost 30 years. After graduating from Hayward, Harold attended college at Stout for a semester and then decided to enlist into the U.S. Army on March 2, 1954. Harold spent much of his deployment as a helicopter repairman in Germany. While in the service Harold earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and Sharpshooter with rifle designation. Harold was honorably discharged on February 16, 1956, and then moved to Silver Bay, MN where he worked in the taconite plant for a brief time.
Harold then continued his education at the University of Wisconsin, Superior, where he earned a degree in business and a minor in English. On August 30, 1958, Harold was joined in marriage to Shirley Somerville in Hayward. Harold took a job with a finance company in Duluth for a short time before being hired by Risberg Realty in Hayward in 1960. Harold worked with Perry Risberg for 12 years in the Realty business before purchasing the business from Perry. Harold operated the business himself until 1989 when his son, Jim, purchased the business. Harold continued to work as a realtor until 2015 when he retired.
In his working years, Harold was very active in the community serving as a board member for the Hayward School System, Chippewa Valley Bank, Town of Hayward, and Fishing Hall of Fame. He also served on the building committee for the First Lutheran Church where he was a member for many years. When he moved to Waters Edge Care Center, he led the resident board.
Harold is survived by his two children, Jim (Karyn) Tiffany of Hayward, Kari Costa of Stillwater, MN; four grandchildren, Kristine (Drew) Anderson, Joey (Hannah Weegman) Costa, Thomas Tiffany, and Maria Costa; brother-in-law, Larry (Gerry) Somerville of Hayward; sister-in-law, Kathy Bergum of Hayward; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margorie Thimke; and his wife, Shirley.
A memorial service celebrating Harold's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in Hayward with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating. A time of gathering will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward. Military honors will be accorded by the Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program.
