Michelle Lutjens Obituary

Michelle "Mickie" (Styner) Lutjens October 30, 1951 - January 17, 2022 Mickie loved people. She cared for those around her, and made friends everywhere that she went. She touched so many lives and built such meaningful relationships. She will be sorely missed. Mickie was born in Amarillo, TX and always counted herself a Texan. She moved to Montebello, CA in middle school. This change sparked her love for middle schoolers. As an adult, she would go on to teach the middle school Sunday school class and then become a history teacher at Marshall Middle School in Pomona. She often joked with her students, stating that she was 92 years old. In her retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer with Teen Challenge of Riverside. Mickie married James Lutjens in 1970. Together they raised three children in Alta Loma. She would later refer to her years of raising small children as the best years of her life. She was an artist at heart and often created stage scenes and costumes for her children's activities. Her artwork was also displayed and awarded in several contests and showings, including the LA County Fair. Once her children were grown, Mickie became a very active grandmere. Mickie could be found sledding with her grandchildren, taking her teen grandsons and their friends to the beach, homeschooling during the time that schools were shut down, and taking the little ones on outings to puppet fairs, the Discovery Science Center, and the Carlsbad Flower fields just to name a few. Mickie leaves behind three children, Lindsey (Medina), Jamie (Yanik), and Benjamin; two sons-in-law, Jason Medina and Vincent Yanik; and nine grandchildren, William Medina, Robert Medina, Steven Medina, Elodia Medina, Aaron Yanik, Alexis Yanik, Jordan Yanik, Audrey Lutjens, and Violet Lutjens. All who wish to join in celebrating the life of Michelle "Mickie" Lutjens are invited to join at The Vine Church ~ 12489 Foothill Blvd, Rancho Cucamonga on February 19th at 11:00 am

Mickie was a wonderful person. I worked with her husband Jim for many years. She will be missed by many.
