1950 - September 17, 2021 Rick E. Hoglund, 71, of Riverside County, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 17, 2021 surrounded by his family. Raised in Ohio, Rick earned a BA in Music at the University of Toledo, then transitioned to California to continue his music career. Rick played as a professional in musical groups and solo throughout the Los Angeles basin, and subsequently added music educator to his growing list of roles in the Inland Empire. Rick's impact on Music Education and Musical Theatre in the Inland Empire was expansive. He served as music faculty at Mount San Jacinto College, San Bernardino Valley College, and he loved teaching band and choir with the San Bernardino and Hemet City Unified School Districts. He worked with several regional theatres including the Ramona Bowl, Redlands Bowl, Yucaipa Little Theatre, Junior University, and many more. He also served in the music ministry at several churches. One of his greatest enjoyments was joining the Department of Theatre Arts at CSU San Bernardino as a lecturer in 1992. He became a regular part of the collaborative team working in the theatre department and on musical productions as accompanist, musical director, composer, and music arranger. Rick also loved leading courses in piano, vocal music, and the history of Rock and Roll for San Bernardino Valley College. Students and colleagues appreciated Rick's sense of humor, along with his dry wit and incredible breadth of knowledge. His passion for teaching lead him to share as a team member for The California Arts Project. An excellent collaborator he was a part of numerous projects with individual artists and small groups showcasing throughout the region. Rick was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and husband. Along with his many friends and colleagues he leaves behind: his brother David Hoglund; his children Richard Hoglund Jr, Heather Hoglund Trejo, Renee Williams, Lindsey Lombardo, and Jose Roberto Trejo; his grandchildren Robert Xavier Trejo and Natalie Grace Trejo; and his life collaborator and dearest love, Kathryn Ervin. A Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 23 from 9 AM at the Community Memorial Chapel of San Bernardino, 738 E. Highland Ave, San Bernardino CA. Covid-19 protocols require wearing masks and temperatures will be taken. The memorial will also be broadcast on YouTube, with details to be posted on the Rick Hoglund's Facebook page. An informal celebration of life and music jam session will take place after the memorial, from 11 AM to 1 PM at San Bernardino Valley College, outside of the Auditorium. Please bring your own picnic blankets or lawn chairs, and join us to share music and remembrances of our dear friend.
