Anna T. Meinhold, 94, of Saint Clair, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at her residence with her loving and devoted daughter, Helen, at her side and several of her cats cuddled next to her.
Born May 2, 1928, in Saint Clair, she was a daughter of the late John and Julia Kardasin Timko.
She was a graduate of Saint Clair High School, Class of 1946.
Anna was a member of St. Michael Orthodox Church, Saint Clair, and was a devoted Orthodox Christian all of her life. She followed in the footsteps of her father, John Timko, who was one of the founders of St. Michael's Orthodox Church. She and her husband, Robert, helped with starting an Orthodox Mission Church in Waldorf, Md. The fledgling church held services in a garage, and then after several years, the small parish was able to raise funding to construct the beautiful St. Thomas the Apostle Orthodox Church. The church was custom-built in traditional Carpatho-Rusyn timber framed construction, as found in Ukraine. This church is now a vibrant and growing parish.
Anna was very dedicated to her family; she especially delighted in sharing the joy of art, music and reading with her children. They were led by example to understand the importance of extending kindness and compassion to other people and animals.
A longtime breast cancer survivor, Anna was a very strong supporter of other women battling this disease.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, CMSgt. Robert Meinhold, in 2010, and a daughter, Sandra Meinhold-Edwards, in 1998.
Surviving are daughter, Helen Meinhold, of Saint Clair; son, Dr. John Meinhold, of New Hampshire; and a grandson, Lt. Col. Nicholas Edwards, of Germany.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 3, from St. Michael Orthodox Church, 109 N. Nichols St., Saint Clair. The Rev. Jeff Zias will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hillside SPCA, P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901, or St. Michael Orthodox Memorial Fund at the above address. Burial will be in St. Michael Orthodox Cemetery, East Norwegian Twp. Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, Saint Clair, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences can be sent at www.brucethartfuneralhome.com.
