Carolyn Rauenzahn, 86, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.
Born Jan. 5, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Quinn.
On Aug. 22, 1959, she married John Rauenzahn. Inseparable, they were married for 61 years before he passed on Jan. 5, 2021.
Surviving are her two daughters, Lisa (Christopher) Panus and Karen (George) Bennethum; three grandchildren, Andrew Panus, John Panus and Samantha (Chandler) Liero; and one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Liero.
She was predeceased by a sister, Frances Deel, and is survived by a brother, Edward (Sharon) Quinn.
Carolyn was a graduate of Minersville High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Millersville University and a master's degree from Marywood University.
Carolyn spent the majority of her teaching career as a dedicated third grade teacher in the Schuylkill Haven Area School District. A teacher who believed every child had talent and worth, she strove to instill a sense of pride and perseverance in all her students.
In addition to teaching, Carolyn faithfully served her churches, St. John's United Church of Christ and Paul's Summerhill UCC.
Carolyn was blessed with wonderful friendships from childhood, church, school, dinner club and the "Dunkin' " crowd. She also formed enduring friendships on travels with John to Florida and Maine. Among Carolyn's many talents and chic sense of style, she is especially remembered by her daughters as an exceptional cook who effortlessly made every family meal and gathering into a special occasion.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Summer Hill, with Pastor Kenneth McDowell officiating.
