Edward DeFrehn Obituary

Edward J. DeFrehn, 88, a lifelong resident of Mahanoy City, passed away peacefully April 8 with his wife of 61 years, Mildred, Peggy, by his side at Weatherwood Nursing Home, Weatherly.

Ed last worked as a highway inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ringtown.

He was an avid camper and fisherman and was active in the Boy Scouts of America with membership in the Brotherhood of the Order of the Arrow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer DeFrehn; five sisters, Margaret Goodman, Grace Gilbert, Amelia Guyer, Stella DeFrehn and Emma Brimlow.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mildred, are nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Jane Clifford Ritz Funeral Home, 19 E. Mahanoy Ave., Mahanoy City, with the Rev. Craig Zimmerman and Jeffrey DeFrehn officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home, followed by interment in German Protestant Cemetery, Mahanoy Township. Jane Clifford Ritz Funeral Home, Franklin R. Fetter, funeral director, has charge of the arrangements.
