Florence Kaledas Obituary

Florence Ann Brusiewski Kaledas, 89, of Mahanoy City, formerly of Frackville, passed away Monday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.

Born in Frackville, Oct. 28, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Henrietta Branach Brusiewski.

She attended Frackville schools and worked at the former Material Outlet on Lehigh Avenue and the former Model Garment Factory, both in Frackville, in her early years and then devoted her time to her husband and family.

Florence was a member of St. Joseph Parish and was active in the former St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Frackville, and the Frackville Senior Citizens.

Florence always loved and collected angels. She remained self-sufficient and independent up until her hospitalizations. Her housekeeping was impeccable and most importantly, she always had a kind word to say about everyone. She was a pillar of strength and a role model to her family.

A devoted Catholic, she would say the rosary daily - even several times a day when a family member was in need. The strength of her prayers resulted in many resolutions.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William J. Kaledas, in 2012; three sisters, Sophy Alexander, Helen Beecroft and Ginger Brusiewski; a brother, Leo Brusiewski.

Florence is survived by three sons, William R. Kaledas and his wife, Suzanne, Danville, Robert J. Kaledas and his wife, Peggy, Boothwyn, and Joseph F. Kaledas and his wife, Debbie, Danville; five grandchildren, Tara, William Jr., Anthony, Alex and Jennifer; six great-grandchildren, Avery and Mason, Natalie, Juliana, Matthew and Maxwell; two sisters, Mary Stank, Frackville, and Betty Tokash, Saint Clair; a brother, John Brusiewski, Blackwood, N.J.; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Frackville, with the Rev. Robert Finlan as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment at her husband's side will be held at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Parish Memorial Fund, 7 South Broad Mountain Ave., Frackville, PA 17931.

I am truly sorry for your loss, as I remember Mrs. Kaledas - a wonderful and pious woman. I first met Florence in 2007 when I bought her and her husband's home here in Frackville. I knew the first time I met her, she radiated a special light and beauty. May God provide her and her late husband a special place of love, peace and joy in heaven.

I was very saddened by the news of Florence's passing. I will miss our weekly visits as she was a very special lady who loved her family and was a very religious woman who prayed daily for not only her family but for others as well. I will miss our discussions on world news...politics and just whatever was going on locally. My deepest sympathy to the Kaledas family. Heaven has gained a very special angel. GOD BLESS!
