George N. Hertz, 78, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, at Allied Services Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Scranton.

George was born Nov. 2, 1943, in Glen Dower, a son of the late Anna (Polk) and Andrew Hertz.

He was the husband of Janice (Eckelmann) Hertz.

He was a graduate of Cass Twp. High School and a member of Saint Ambrose Church, Schuylkill Haven.

George served in the Army in the Vietnam War.

He was a machine operator at EXXON Chemical and Tredegar Film Products.

He was a member of American Legion Post 38 and was formerly a proficient dart shooter. George was an avid sportsman, enjoying all aspects of the great outdoors. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Emil, James and Michael Hertz; sisters, Maryann Muscara and Gloria Walasavage.

George is survived by his wife, Janice; two sons, Eric, husband of Karen Hertz, and Andrew, husband of Jill Hertz; two daughters, Jessica, wife of Steven Glenny, and Jennifer, wife of Brian Schumacher. He is also survived by two sisters, Arlene Reiff and Betty Mae Hertz; four brothers, Andrew Hertz, John, husband of Joanne Hertz, Paul, husband of Frances Hertz, and Thomas, husband of Marie Hertz; his grandchildren, Zachary, Derek, Caroline, Andrew and Julia Hertz; nieces and nephews.

A religious funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home, Minersville, with a calling hour from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA, 18 Wertz Drive, Pine Grove, PA 17963. Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc. is entrusted with arrangements.

My condolences to the Hertz family. George and my dad Rich were friends from Exxon. I remember lots of stories and laughs between them two. They were both characters for sure. Having a beer or two right now with my dad. May he rest in peace.
