Keith Thomas Berezwick, "Sheriff 20," 40, of New Ringgold and formerly of Mahanoy Plane, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, surrounded by his family after a five-month battle with colorectal cancer.
Keith is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; dogs, Jack and Stout; father, Matthew Berezwick; brother, Kyle Berezwick; and countless family and friends who loved and adored him.
Keith was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Berezwick; maternal and paternal grandparents; and dog, Bourbon.
Keith was a 1999 graduate of Cardinal Brennan High School, where he played soccer and baseball. Keith attended Bloomsburg University and graduated with a degree in criminal justice in 2003. He then attended the Pennsylvania Sheriff's Deputy Basic Training.
On March 22, 2004, Keith was sworn in as a deputy sheriff for the Schuylkill County Sheriff's Department. His dedication and exemplary work led Keith to the promotion of sergeant. As an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Keith often times would speak to elementary schools and scout troops about the law enforcement field and his passion to protect and serve. One of his career highlights was when a student once asked for him to be interviewed for a school project.
Keith had many passions which he shared with his wife, Elizabeth, friends and family. One of his greatest passions was hockey, which he enjoyed playing and watching. Keith and his Pop would travel to Hershey together when Keith played for the Junior Hershey Bears.
Keith's other passions included spending time outdoors on ATV rides with Elizabeth, their dogs, Jack and Stout, and friends. He also enjoyed being a chef to many at Penn State tailgates, Christmas lights and decorations, and golf. Golf played a special part in Keith's adult life. He enjoyed playing in tournaments to help many local causes throughout the county.
Keith, along with his brother, established and ran the Susan B. Berezwick Memorial Golf Tournament and Susan B. Berezwick Educational Fund in memory of their mother.
A Celebration of Keith's Life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Mountain Valley Golf Course, Barnesville. Friends are invited to his visitation at the golf course on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service, and are encouraged to dress in Keith's favorite color, Blue, or your Keith Strong shirts. Interment will be held in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Frackville, where he will be laid to rest by his mother, Susan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan B. Berezwick and Sgt. Keith T. Berezwick Memorial Educational Fund. Schuylkill Area Community Foundation: 216 S. Centre St., Pottsville, Pa 17901.
