Leon W. Goodwin, 91, of Pottsville, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning in his residence.
Born Feb. 28, 1930, in Waterbury, Conn., he was a son of the late Leon B. and Sophia (Abram) Goodwin.
He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Bronze Star Medal.
Leon worked in the banking industry for 30+ years, starting his career in Connecticut and working at various branch locations around the Pottsville area, including vice president of Union Bank, Pottsville, until his retirement.
He was a former member of Pottsville Rotary Club. Leon enjoyed attending antique car shows with his son, watching golf with his wife and spending time with family and pets.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence G. (Stotten) Goodwin, in Feb. 2012, to whom he was married for 60 years; a granddaughter, Tarrah L. Weinus, on Nov. 28, 2021.
Leon is survived by daughter, Donna and her husband, Joe, of Pottsville; son, Michael L. Goodwin, husband of Joan, of Pottsville; grandchildren, Michael, Taylor, wife of Eric, John, husband of Ann, Jason, husband of Michelle, Jody, wife of Bob, and Nicole; 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and interment in Sky-View Cemetery with military honors will be private at the convenience of the family. The family requests contributions in Leon's memory be sent to Hillside SPCA, P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901. Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Sincere sympathy in your loss of Lee. I worked for him, as did my husband Steve, at the Union Bank. We also became friends as well as co-workers. Blessings to all his family and friends.
