Peter Donchak Obituary

Peter Donchak, 91, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Frackville, died Friday at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn N.Y.
Born in Newark, N.J., Feb. 5, 1920, he was the eldest son of the late Andrew and Anna Glowa Donchak, formerly of Frackville.
He was a retired machinist, having worked for American Machine and Foundry Co., Brooklyn, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority of New York City.
He was a World War II veteran, having served four years with the Army as a combat engineer in Europe.
He was a member of The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish, Brooklyn, for 53 years; Frackville American Legion Post 398; Brooklyn American Legion Post 157, and TWU Retirees' Association.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Nicholas, Paul and Adam Donchak; a sister, Mary Gnoza.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Pearl Chelak Donchak; two sons, Peter J. Donchak and his wife, Mary, East Windsor, N.J., and John Donchak and his wife, Geri, Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Diane Donchak, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lisa Donchak, Manhattan, N.Y.; a sister, Helen Kovach, Frackville; eight grandchildren, Jillian, Meaghan, Peter, Caitlyn, Alexandra, Sophia, John Thomas and Andrew.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc., 9 N. Lehigh Ave., Frackville. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, Frackville, with the Rev. Archpriest John Fields officiating. Friends may call the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with Parastas at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call the funeral home from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Memorial Fund , 45 S. Second St., Frackville, PA 17931. Interment with military honors will be in St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Butler Township. Nice Hart Funeral Home Inc., Frackville, is in charge of arrangements. I don't believe I had the pleasure of meeting you but because your granddaughters Alexandra and Sophia capellini are my cousins I feel some connection. Rest in peace Peter.
