Peter Vernalis Obituary

Peter Anthony Vernalis Sr., of 20 S. White St., Shenandoah, passed away Saturday at the home of his daughter, Dr. Marina Vernalis.

He was the proprietor of the Vernalis Restaurant, Shenandoah, which has been doing business since 1948.

Vernalis served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the 86th Chemical and Mortar Battalion.

He was a member of the A.P. Damato American Legion "Medal of Honor" Post 792 and the Polish American Fire Company.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Edward Vernalis; three sisters, Mary Jevelle, Stella Stefanski and Bertha Yurich.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Logothetides Vernalis; a son, Peter Vernalis Jr., Shenandoah; a daughter, Dr. Marina Vernalis, Silver Spring, Md.; three grandchildren, Lisa and Michael, Shenandoah, and Peter Lawrence, Silver Spring, Md.

The family will receive friends at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc., 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A private funeral service will at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Interment with military honors will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah.

Contributions may be made to A.P. Damato American Legion Post 792, 116 N. Main St., Shenandoah, PA 17976 or to the Polish American Fire Company No. 4, 115 W. Center St., Shenandoah, PA 17976.

i've known pete sr. for many years my father had a business in the next block. i had the pleasure of knowing pete jr. his son and daughter all wonderful people.at this time i remember pete as a kind and respectible person my prayers are with the entire family....god bless....
