Robert Blankenhorn Obituary

Robert L. Blankenhorn, 79, of Pottsville, passed away with his loving family by his side Saturday at his home.
Born in Pottsville, July 25, 1933, he was a son of the late Florence Blankenhorn.
He graduated from Pottsville High School, Class of 1951, and made district band his senior year.
He served in the Marine Corps as a corporal in the Korean War.
He worked as a route salesman for Ost and Ost Co., Pottsville, for 51 years.
He was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Pottsville, and a lifetime member of both the Humane Fire Company and the Marine Corps League Coal Cracker Detachment. He was a member of the Cressona Band, Pottsville Third Brigade Band, Northeastern String Band and the Joe Misti and Orchestra. He was a member of the Walter Griffith's AMVETS, the VFW Post 129 and Mechanicsville Game and Fish.
He earned an Order of the Arrow as a Boy Scout and then later was an assistant Boy Scout Leader for Troop 3.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marianne W. Beissel Blankenhorn, on Jan. 3, 2007.
Robert is survived by two sons, David W. Blankenhorn, and his wife, Victoria A., Pottsville, and Robb L. Blankenhorn, and his wife, Theresa A., Orwigsburg; two daughters, Lynn A. Moyer and her husband, Daniel K., Pottsville, and Donna L. Dallatore and her husband, William (Chipper), Orwigsburg; a cousin, Les Blankenhorn and his wife, Diane, Pottsville; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon, with the Rev. Jeff Colarossi officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.

To the Blankenhorn Family:
Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Bob. We were neighbors on East Norwegian St. My parents, George and Ann Hornung, always valued you as neighbors. When Mary Ann passed away and I saw her maiden name, I realized that I remembered her playing the clarinet in the PHS band. I was in the Jr. High band at the time. I hadn't realized that Bob was in the band as well. I know that Bob will certainly be missed.
