Russel "Rus" Charles Scheuren, 72, died Nov. 5, 2021, at The Village at Penn State, where he resided.
Born Jan. 28, 1949, he was a son of the late Herbert C. and Jacqueline N. (Maurer) Scheuren Klees.
He was raised in Lavelle and worked on the Scheuren Family Dairy Farm, bottling and delivering milk to the local community.
He attended North Schuylkill High School, where he was an outstanding athlete, playing football and wrestling.
In 1967, he was the PIAA District XI 141-pound wrestling champion and the regional runnerup - first undefeated wrestler in regular season from North Schuylkill (14-0). He continued his wrestling career at Bloomsburg University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
He was inducted into the Pottsville Chapter of Wrestling Officials Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
Rus attended the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey, and worked as a state police officer. The majority of his career was spent as a unit manager of Level 4 Security at State Correctional Institution-Frackville, where he retired in 2014.
His greatest interest was spending time with his family. He enjoyed the outdoors and hiked daily with his wife in local and state parks. He participated in marathons and triathlons in his younger days and continued to race in 5K and 10K races around State College. His children cherish memories of skiing in the Poconos and in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River and mountain biking on the Taylorsville Mountain. He was his children and grandchildren's most enthusiastic supporter. His grandchildren called him Pops, and he loved to attend all of their athletic events. Pops was always the first one to give them a big hug at the end of the game.
He moved to The Village at Penn State in State College and did volunteer work after retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Scheuren; half-brother, Herbert Scheuren; and half-sister, Louise "Paddy" Overkott and husband, Robert.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Facini, State College; daughter, Tara Bahn, husband, Brian Bahn, children, Ella, Henry and Charlie Bahn, York; stepdaughter, Tracey Scheitrum, husband, Daniel Scheitrum, children, Davin and Tyson, Harrisburg; stepson, John Stisowain, North Carolina; sister, Jacqueline Tate and husband, Tom, Birdsboro; sister, Patrice Leipham and husband, Neil, Virginia; sister-in-law, Cass; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
