Veronica M. Steranko

1929 - 2021

Veronica M. "Funch" Steranko, 91, of Port Carbon, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, at her home.

Born on Nov. 22, 1929, in Cumbola, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Cecelia (Banas) Wojciechowski.

Veronica was a graduate of Blythe Township High School, Class of 1948.

She worked as a presser at many of the local garment factories and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Byzantine Church in Saint Clair.

She was the last member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Charlotte Pulli, Mary Greiner, Elizabeth Smulktis, Josephine Gulko and Frances Kaminski; and two brothers, Adam and William Wojciechowski.

Veronica is survived by her husband of 66 years, Francis "Fritz" Steranko, Port Carbon; two daughters, Jean Felix and her husband, Andrew, Ashland, and Carol Kaunas and her husband, Robert, Schnecksville; a grandson, Kurtis Kaunas; a granddaughter, Kiera Kaunas; and nieces and nephews.

Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Saint Clair, with the Rev. Gregory Noga officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday with a Parastas service at 7 p.m. and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon.
