Stanwood - Terrie Ann Lura, 69, left us to be with the Lord on April 12, 2021 after a short battle with cancer while wintering in San Tan Valley, Arizona.
Terrie Ann Thompson was born at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, ND to William and Helen (Ambroson) Thompson on June 2, 1951. Along with her big brother Dale, she spent her childhood years in Clifford, ND where she attended school and graduated from Clifford-Galesburg High School in 1969. While attending Mayville State Teachers College, she started dating Duey Lura (whom she had met years earlier at Red Willow Bible Camp), eventually marrying him on Dec. 26, 1970. Beginning in 1972, Terrie started a long career of teaching alongside her husband. They began their teaching careers that led them from Clifford to Binford/Cooperstown, ND, and teaching everything from elementary to high school, music to band (along with some Math and Reading). In 1989, after a short stint as a hospital recruiter, Terrie, Duey and their sons packed up and moved across the country where she taught in Arlington & Stanwood, WA. While teaching music at Stanwood Elementary and being a mom to two Stanwood boys who were involved in numerous sports, church and community activities, Terrie earned her Master's Degree in Education from Lesley College while also serving as a choir director at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. After her boys graduated from Stanwood High School, Terrie and Duey moved back to North Dakota and settled in Fargo in 1996, Terrie wrapped up her teaching years at Oak Grove and Moorhead Junior High, as well as consulting at Moorhead State for Music instruction. Her no-nonsense and hardworking personality presented some of the most amazing school programs that parents and students alike will remember! Even above her amazing accomplishments within the school setting, Terrie's love of directing music really came together when she merged both experienced and novice singers to make the most beautiful music for worship. Terrie's mission in life was to make every church choir or praise team the best it could be and to have a great deal of fun in the process.
Retiring at the age of 62, Terrie was able to shift her focus to her great loves: First and foremost was her faith and her dear family. If she was not Facetiming her grandchildren, she was traveling from coast to coast to visit and cheer on the teams that she rooted for or programs her family was performing in. However, she needed to keep her hands busy and did so with Crafts ranging from making purses, cakes, Christmas ornaments, sewing, and showing her great flair for fashion.
Preceding her death are her parents, William and Helen Thompson. Continuing her legacy here on Earth are her husband, Duey Lura (San Tan Valley, AZ); Sons, Davis Lura (Christina Pluschke) of Marysville, WA; and DJ (Melissa) Lura as well as her beloved grandchildren, Adelynn, Reese and Dylan all of Fargo, ND; her brother, Dale (Cathie) Thompson, Queen Creek, AZ; several nieces, nephews & cousins.
A prayer service and the funeral service will be held respectively on Tuesday, July 6th at 6:00 pm and Wednesday, July 7th at 11 am at Atonement Lutheran Church in Fargo. The funeral will be available online at Atonement.live.
