Chief William Glenn Brown Sr.

October 10, 1938 - September 28, 2025

Chief William Glenn Brown Sr., 86, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

He was born in Johnston County, NC, the son of the late Moses Braswell and Mary Louise Brown. Mr. Brown was a dedicated member of the Navy, of 49 years, who served active duty for 26 years. After which he went on to become a Naval Junior ROTC Instructor for South Florence High School, where he retired from after 22 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who enjoyed gardening and watching football. Mr. Brown was a man of God, who loved the Lord and attended church at Gospel Temple. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his beloved kids and family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, of over 30 years, Shirley Elizabeth Barkalow Brown; sons, Charles Cook Jr. and Ronald Cook; and daughter, Karen Kirkley.

Surviving are his sons, Edwin Scott (Dena) Brown, Kenneth Cook, Michael (Iris) Cook, Douglas (Laurie) Cook, John (Christine) Cook and William Glenn "Rusty" (Lisa) Brown Jr.; daughters, Rebekah (Scott) Osman and Denise Callozzo; grandchildren, Carson Scott (Jennifer) Brown, Amy Clark, Joey Daughety, Ashley (Robbie) Croxton, Asher Cook, Stephen Miller, Jeffrey Miller, Laura (Drew Smith) Miller, Katelyn Miller, Carrie (T.J.) Fonzi, Adaline Cook, Alana Woodburn, Jasmine Thackstan, Sydney (Jonah) Kreutzer, Blake Osman, Zoe Osman, Madison Brown, McKenzie Brown, Annabella Brown, William Glenn Brown III, Wyatt Brown, Joey Miller and Cecilia Callozzo; great-grandchildren, Hailey Brown, Emma Jean Brown, Dylan Clark, Kyndle Mae Clark, Dalton Brinkley, Ellie Fonzi, Orion Miller and Maddy Daughety; brother, Bobby (Cybil) Brown; and daughter-in-law, Karen Patras.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Compassion Church. Entombment, with military honors, will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.
