Ernie Kirkland

Marion Ernest Kirkland, Jr., fondly known as Ernie, was born on February 26, 1959, in Camden, SC, and resided in Columbia, South Carolina.

He was a dedicated and empathetic man who lived out his faith through his work and hobbies. He found joy in gardening, caring for animals, especially his beloved dogs, and watching Star Trek. A devoted follower of Christ, Marion was an active member of Victory Bible Baptist Church in Irmo.

Marion was an inspiring figure in the field of addiction counseling. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Clinical Psychology from Francis Marion University. His supportive nature and unwavering faith led him to dedicate his career to helping those struggling with addiction. He served at Bruce Hall in Florence, S.C., the ALPHA Center in Camden, S.C., Hope Health, and Circle Park in Florence. He was a beacon of hope to many, living out the verse, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2).

Marion is survived by his son, Marion E. "Kirkland" Kirkland, III of Columbia; his mother, Mary Lois McPherson Kirkland of Lugoff; brother, A. Timothy Kirkland (Gail) of Lugoff; and sister, Rhonda Avant of Lugoff. He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Ernest "Doc" Kirkland, Sr.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, 2211 Porter Cross Road, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
