Harriet Davis Obituary

Harriet S. Davis

February 2, 1941 - October 11, 2025

Harriet Davis, a loving matriarch, faithful woman of God, and lifelong champion of the underdog, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, in Florence, SC, at the age of 84.

Born in Hope Mills, North Carolina, Harriet was the middle child of William Edward Sessoms and Pearl Quick. Harriet was a natural athlete and a star player on her high school basketball team-a love for the game that remained a lifelong passion. In 1963, Harriet married Air Force Crew Chief Thomas Martin Davis at Hopefield Air Force Base, embarking on a life of devotion and family building.

Harriet possessed a keen business sense and managed wholesale sportswear businesses across the Southeast before retiring after many years with SteinMart in Florence, SC. Outside of work, she faithfully watched Carolina basketball and Golden State Warriors, and she especially cherished anyone who could play the banjo like her father.

Harriet's defining characteristic was her fierce sense of justice and compassion. She was kind to every human she encountered and always rooted for the underdog, believing strongly in standing her ground to protect the weak. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, faith, and a wonderful sense of humor. May her life's adventures continue to bring laughter to those who knew her.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, William E. Sessoms and Pearl Quick; and her brother, Retired Army Officer Bill Sessoms, who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She is survived by her loving sister, Mary Kate Thompson of Bladenboro, North Carolina and Vicky Harmon of York, South Carolina; her two children, Jeff Davis of Charlotte, NC, and Marta Strock of Santa Cruz, CA; and four cherished grandchildren, Grant and Blake Davis, and Austin and Phoebe Strock.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at Lake Wylie Charlotte, NC in April of 2026.
