Howard Worrell Obituary

Howard Oliver

Worrell Jr.

FLORENCE - Howard Oliver Worrell Jr., son of the late Howard Oliver Worrell Sr. and Maggie Theresa Oliver Worrell, passed away on July 1, 2023, after an extended illness.

A graduate of McClenaghan High School in 1963, he received his Bachelor of Science from Baptist College of Charleston in 1970. In 1975, he completed his Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina and in 1981, he received his Education Specialist degree from Winthrop College.

Howard spent 37 years as an educator and administrator with the Florence County School District 1. He served as principal of Dewey L. Carter Elementary School prior to retirement and always treasured the impact and memories from his leadership of the students and staff.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He spent his summers at his beach house and enjoyed spending time with his family and his loyal Jack Russell, J.R.

Howard is survived by his daughter, Tess Donohue (Patrick); and his two beloved grandchildren, Olivia Reese and Aidan Patrick; as well as a sister, niece, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Howard's name to the Greenville County Sheriff's Foundation (https://gcsof.org/donate).
