Jack Barrington "Barry" McGirt, Jr.

Jack Barrington "Barry" McGirt, Jr., passed away on Sunday, August 24th, 2025. Born on September 16th, 1946, in Lumberton, NC, he was the oldest son of the late Marie Rogers McGirt and Jack B. McGirt.
After graduating from Florence-Darlington Technical College, Barry served in The United States Air Force from 1966-1970. Following his military duties, Barry graduated from Francis Marion University in 1973 with a degree in Business Administration.
Residing in Birmingham, AL from 1974-2015, Barry spent most of his career in the Tire Industry including positions with BF Goodrich, Heafner Tire, and American Tire Distributors. He was a past President of the Alabama Tire Association as well as a member of its Board of Directors.
Retiring in 2015, Barry returned to South Carolina. With golf as his passion, his other focus was on his faith, family, and friends; his interest was in putting others first. Barry's many contacts are a testament to the support and kindness he shared with his friends and loved ones.
Barry leaves behind his wife, P.J. Blackwell McGirt; children, Michelle (Jim Hinds) McGirt of Florida and Carl (Jen) McGirt of Alabama; stepson, Charles (Hernan) Odom of NC; granddaughter, Alyssa McGirt of Alabama; sister, Ann Marie (Kimrey) Pennington of Hilton Head; brothers, Steve (Gail) McGirt of Patrick and Keith (Guillermo) McGirt of Washington, DC; and sister-in-law, Joyce Blackwell of Darlington. Preceding Barry in death was his first wife, Susan Thomas McGirt.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Kevin Cauley at Darlington Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 4, at 3:00pm. Friends and family are also invited to a reception at the Darlington Country Club following the service. Barry's ashes will be interred in a private service at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to Florence Area Humane Society, 1434 McCurdy Rd., Florence, SC 29506 or Ashpole Presbyterian Church at P.O. Box 759, Rowland, NC 28383.
