Joseph Nicholson Obituary
Nicholson, Jr.
Joseph "Joe" Cannon Nicholson, Jr., 81, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
Mr. Nicholson was born a son of the late Sarah McLean Nicholson and Joseph Cannon Nicholson, Sr. Joe was a graduate of Lumberton High School and attended North Carolina State College. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, a member of First Baptist Church in Florence, and a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge. Mr. Nicholson was an announcer and DJ for several radio stations, including WTSB in Lumberton, WFMO in Fairmont, NC, and WATA in Boone, NC. He was also a staff announcer with WBTW and WPDE. He retired from Prudential Insurance Company and was currently employed with Floyd Financial Services.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, George Hector Nicholson, and his sister, Sarah Cameron Hall.
Mr. Nicholson is survived by his wife, Judith "Judie" Lynn Hodges Nicholson; daughter, Gina Cockrell (Bart) of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Joseph Cockrell, Katie Cockrell and Andy Cockrell; brother, James David Nicholson of Lumberton, NC; and sisters, Betsy Lucretia Redman and Nancy McLean Nicholson, both of Lumberton, NC.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 South Irby Street, Florence, SC 29501.
Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 26, 2021 at Garden of Memories directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
