Florence – Leon Carroll Windham, 86, died peacefully on June 6, 2023, at McLeod Health in Florence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, June 9, in the Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with family visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Windham was born in Lamar, SC, son of the late Leon J. Windham and Beulah Amerson Windham. He attended school in Lamar and graduated from Lamar High School.

He served his community as a member of the Army National Guard, Darlington Rescue Squad and Gideons International. He retired from the insurance industry. Mr. Windham enjoyed farming, was an avid collector, and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He never met a stranger and cherished his friends. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family.

He was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church and Cornerstone Baptist Church until his health declined.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Bryant Windham. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Hyler (Dr. Danny) and Lisa Matthews (Lex), all of Florence; five grandchildren, Jonathan Hyler of Roswell, GA, Jennifer Yacoubian (Dikran), Julia Hyler, Justin Matthews (Olivia Edwards) and Thomas Matthews; three great-grandchildren, Ellie Hyler, Olivia Yacoubian and Noah Yacoubian. He is also survived by a sister, Myrtle Windham Lowman; a brother, Eston Windham (Brenda); and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Heritage Home of Florence for their compassionate care during his illness.
