Slaughter

Mr. Marvin Ray Slaughter, 82, died on July 20, 2021, at home. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 58 years, Linda Carter Slaughter, and two sons, Marvin Earl "Sonny" Slaughter (Marla) of Florence, S.C. and Andrew Todd "Andy" Slaughter (Christy) of Columbia, S.C. He is also survived by five grandchildren whom he adored – Andrew Wilson "Drew", Mary Hagan, Kathryn Evelyn "Kate", Mason Stroud and Millicent Hanna "Milly"; a sister, Betty Jo Wainscott (Harold) of Owenton, KY and several nieces and nephews.

Born January 16, 1939, in Lexington, Kentucky and raised on a farm in Owenton, Kentucky. He graduated from Owenton High School and attended Transylvania and the University of Kentucky before joining the U. S. Army where he served two years in Texas and Germany. In 1960 he was hired by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and had a successful career where he made many life-long friends. He retired after 35 years.

Marvin was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served as a deacon, church trustee, Sunday School secretary, Director of Training Union and several other committees. He was a long-time choir member before his health issues prevented it.

He was an avid golfer for many years and loved to travel with family and friends. He and Linda toured 48 states and 40 countries.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Always happiest with his family.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at the Church. Interment will immediately follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
