DARLINGTON, S.C. -- Sarah Howle Brown Corbett, 76, passed away on Aug. 13, 2021.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto Street, Florence. The family will speak to those attending after the service.

Mrs. Corbett was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late James Howle and the late Lena Hobson Howle.

Sarah was born at home on the family farm where she lived her entire life except when at college in Rock Hill. As a child she helped her parents and grandparents on the farm. As a teenager she drove a school bus while attending high school. Sarah graduated from Winthrop College and returned home to teach junior high science at Poyner High School in Florence for 3 years and then Darlington Academy for 4 years. While in college she waited tables in Myrtle Beach during the summers.

Sarah returned to school and earned her Masters Degree in Accounting from the University of South Carolina. Starting in 1977 she taught accounting in the business department at Francis Marion University. In 1980 she served as University Internal Auditor and then promoted to Assistant Vice President for Accounting and served in that capacity until retiring in 2004 after 28 years of service at FMU.

Sarah was very generous and helped many in her community and cared for her family. She loved gardening and created a beautiful yard around her house. She traveled to many countries around the world and most of the 50 states. She loved animals and provided a home for abandoned dogs and cats.

Surviving are her husband Ken Corbett and many caring friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Isgett.
