Melrose

July 9, 1916 - Jan. 22, 2016

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2016 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Tony Wegleitner who died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

 Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Anton Hubert Wegleitner was born July 9, 1916 in Krain Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Paul and Rose (Schmitz) Wegleitner. He was united in marriage to Verena Heinen on November 23, 1937 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa. Tony farmed north of Freeport until his retirement in January of 1978. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.  Tony enjoyed dancing and deer hunting his entire life. He also enjoyed woodworking and painting everything red, playing checkers and cards, especially Solo, and loved spending time with his family and friends.     

Survivors include his children, Leander (Pat) Wegleitner of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Julius "Joe" (Carol) Wegleitner of Burtrum, Tony, Jr. (Kerry) Wegleitner of Coon Rapids, David (Linda) Wegleitner of Grey Eagle, Dale (Joan) Wegleitner of Melrose, Darrell (Anette) Wegleitner of Freeport, Deborah (LeRoy) Sand of Albany, and Denise Wegleitner of Portland, Oregon; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Wegleitner of Grey Eagle.

Tony was in preceded in death by his wife, Verena Wegleitner on November 3, 2013; parents; son, Kenneth Wegleitner on September 3, 2011; great-grandsons, William Richard Karbo II and Carson David Sand; and all of his brothers and sisters.

I had the pleasure of caring for Tony at Pine Villa. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. I'm sure he is very happy to be back with Verena again with a Brandy in hand while playing cards. God bless you all.
