Janice I. Anderson

St. Cloud - (1940-2021)

Jan passed away peacefully on July 6, 2021 at the St. Cloud Hospital with her husband at her side. Jan was born on November 3, 1940 in St. Anthony, IA as the 5th of 6 children. Jan was known as an excellent student graduating from St. Center, IA high school in 1958 and the University of Northern IA in 1961. Jan was an elementary teacher from 1962 to 1971 and thereafter was a mother and homemaker in St. Cloud. Jan was married in 1961 to Garry Anderson with whom she celebrated the rest of her life. She was a member of the faculty wives and women group at SCSU and eagerly promoted women's rights. Jan was known for being a kind and caring person who also wouldn't hesitate to occasionally argue and discuss matters a bit further if she did not agree with your point of view.

Jan and her husband travelled extensively both for pleasure and through the SCSU International Studies Program. She especially enjoyed her time living in Florida, Denmark, England and Australia where she made many lifetime friends. Jan was known as the "Shop till You Drop Lady", earning an advanced degree in gift shops. Her fondness of Danish made paper hangings, specialty napkins, dishes and glass works caused her Danish friends to consider her an honorary ambassador.

Jan enjoyed socializing and debating with her friends and family and is especially known for her welcoming Holiday parties with extensive festive decorations on display. Jan was always available to help out and showed true kindness to her elderly neighbors visiting them almost every day for years. She was especially fond of her grandson Aunders listening intently to his metal drum solos even though they did not sound like her Abba! Jan truly enjoyed spending quality time with her grandson and had a special bond. Her kind heart and flower in her hair will be missed by all who knew her.

Jan is survived by her husband Garry, son Kristopher, daughter in law Kyia, grandson Aunders and grand-dog Yellow. Services and a Celebration of Life honoring her lifestyle will be held at a future date due to the pandemic. Memorial preferences will be provided concurrent with the service announcement. In association with Jan's wishes the family kindly asks those who are not currently vaccinated to consider doing so.
