Kathleen Schwitalla Obituary

Kathleen E. Schwitalla

Dade City, FL formerly of Sauk Rapids - Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 18th, 2021 at St . Anthony's Church in St. Cloud for Kathleen Schwitalla, 84, who passed away on December 19, 2020. Rev. Joe Herzing will officiate and burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10AM - 11AM Friday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Funeral Home in St. Cloud.

Kathleen was born in Rockville, MN, to the late Norbert & Theresa (Chirhart) Neis. She was a 1954 graduate of Cathedral High School in St. Cloud and a 1957 graduate of the College of St. Benedict with a degree in Medical Technology. Kathleen was a medical technologist for several years in both the public and private sectors and was a member of American Association of Clinical Pathologists.

She married Norman Schwitalla on October 11, 1958, and raised her family in Minnesota and Illinois, eventually retiring to Sauk Rapids, MN, where she spent many wonderful years enjoying family and friends.

Kathleen was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and volunteered with many organizations over the years. She enjoyed being involved with the Cathedral Alumni Association, St. Anthony's Christian Mothers, St. Walter's Christian Mothers, West Point Parents Club, Lake Park Booster Club and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, children, and beloved nieces. She loved to play bingo and to go for long car rides to see the sites. Kathleen loved to travel and took many trips over the years with her best friend, Joe. In recent years, she moved to Florida and experienced life on a farm. She particularly enjoyed watching the cattle and celebrated every time a calf was born. Kathleen had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was extremely giving to everyone she knew and loved. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

In Kathleen's last wishes she wanted everyone to know, "My most important job was raising my two children, Daniel and Barbara, and loving my four grandchildren, Stan, Teri, Mary Clare and Elizabeth."

Survivors include her children Daniel (Suzanne) Schwitalla of Dade City, FL, and daughter Barbara (David) Doerries of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren Stanley Schwitalla, Theresa Schwitalla, Mary Clare Doerries, and Elizabeth Doerries; brother, Robert (Joanne) Neis of St. Louis Park; brother in law, Robert Neiman of St. Cloud, MN, sister in laws, Mary Neis of St Cloud, MN and Marcella Schwitalla of St. Cloud, MN and longtime loving companion Joseph Machtemes.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman, her parents, her sister Mary Neiman, her brother, James Neis, and brother in law, Roger Schwitalla.

Memorials can be made to Poor Clare Monastery in Sauk Rapids, MN, in her honor.
