Ruth Ure Obituary
Ruth Madeline Clemens Ure, 101
Mill Valley, CA
Oct. 12, 1912 - Feb. 8, 2014
Ruth Madeline Clemens was born in Fargo, North Dakota on October 12, 1912. Ruth was the second born in a family of 10 children. Her father was Pierre William Clemens and mother was Mary Edna Cline Clemens, both from Fargo, ND. She helped raise her younger brothers and sisters before going off to college and eventually meeting Sam Ure, her husband of nearly 60 years. Ruth and Sam were married in 1942 during WWII, and moved to San Diego with their eldest daughter Nancy at the end of the war. They settled down in San Diego, and quickly had 4 more children. Later the family moved to Los Angeles, and eventually to Moraga in Northern California. During the first 30 years of their marriage, raising five children to become good citizens and to believe in "the golden rule" was Ruth and Sam's primary mission in life, and they both were proud parents who enjoyed seeing their children grow into young adults.
Ruth loved to play bridge and golf with their friends, and became active in charities after her children were grown. After Sam retired, Ruth and Sam finally had the opportunity to travel to Europe and take many wonderful trips. Her children, and their families were always very important to Ruth, and she loved her 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. After Sam died in 2001, Ruth moved to the Redwoods in Mill Valley, CA to be closer to her daughters Nancy and Ann, and enjoyed visits from all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth loved the Redwoods, and had many friends among the residents and staff, and was very active during the first 10 years. She celebrated her 100th and 101st birthdays at the Redwoods. Because of her declining health, Ruth spent less time out of bed during her last year. Ruth passed away early Saturday morning, February 8, 2014.
Ruth is survived by her brother William Clemens of St. Cloud, MN, her daughters Nancy, Jane (Hardy) and Ann, her sons Tom (Dotti) and Herb (Elma), the granddaughters Nicolle (Charlie), Robin (Jeff), Katie and Molly, and great grandchildren William, Luke, Samantha and Teddy. They will all miss Ruth very much, because she was both a friend and a mom or grandmother.
