Jack was born in Staples, Minnesota to Stanley and Ann (Schintgen) Jelinek.  While attending Staples High School, he played football and was the only person to letter in swimming and diving.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.  After his honorable discharge, Jack attended North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo and earned his degree in Pharmacy.   He then practiced as a pharmacist and eventually became a pharmaceutical salesman for Parke-Davis and later Warner-Lambert.  On June 14, 1947, he married Barbara Jane Heath in Willmar.   Jack was always staying busy with a variety of activities throughout his lifetime.  Fitness and exercise were a vital part of his daily routine including pull-ups and one-armed push-ups until the age of 87.   Jack's many hobbies included golfing, hunting, cross country and downhill skiing.  When he was not involved in his physical activities, Jack enjoyed cribbage and poker.   Family meant the world to Jack and he will be dearly missed.

Jack is survived by his children, Barbara Heath of Minnetonka, Craig (Mary) Jelinek of Los Gatos, CA, and David (Li-Ling Sun) Jelinek of Sacramento, CA;  eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren;  sisters, Mary Lou Anderson of Southern California, Darlene Johnson of Blaine; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 63 years, Barbara in 2010; brother, Donald, and sister, Donna Werseen.

Got the sad news yesterday. Sister Deb Bleich and I were just talking about our dear Uncle Jack on the 3rd of May. I hadn't heard much from him over the internet during the past year and was a bit worried. I have many good memories of Uncle Jack. He was my Godfather and in many ways my mentor. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to Babs, Craig, Dave, and theirs.

Dear Jelinek Family,
I'm very sorry for your loss. I just very recently learned of Uncle Jack's passing. He never seemed to age so it was a shock. I wish I would've known about his passing sooner so I could have been there to mourn with you and to celebrate his life.

Dear Jelinek Clan: My deepest sympathy, dearest memories, and prayers avail to my entire Minnesota family. We Anderson kids greatly loved and admired Uncle Jack. About July 1966 Charlene, Bobby, and I ran a muck daily, in front of Uncle Don's cabin. At age 13 I (Cheryl) was able to stay at both Aunt Darlene's and Uncle Jack's home. Ate my first mayonnaise & peanut butter sandwich. Uncle Jack said its even better with salami added! He took me on my first jet ski ride. As we went over thin ice... He saved us both and the jet ski! I also got to spend a little time with Bab's over that New Year holiday. She and John took me out for pizza. All of you Jelinek's are a rare and lovely breed. Uncle Jack led the family with his "Ever Glowing" Olympian Torch. He was never a dull-moment! I am sure heaven is a much livelier resting place since he arrived...
Much Love, Cheryl Fasano (niece)

A very long-time family friend. One of the Four-J's deer hunting camp/shack north of Grand Rapids. A world-class tree climber, an enthusiastic card player, a great deer hunter, a strong skier, a diligent golfer, an avid conversationalist, and a lover of life with a terrific laugh. Jack will be sorely missed by everyone who ever met him.

Dear Family: We are so sorry for your great loss. We loved Uncle Jack very much. Growing up in CA I didn't get the chance to really enjoy his company. But the few times I did were memorable. I think he was fantastic and a real stand up guy. I loved how well he took care of himself and his family. He was so cute and funny and proud of his kids and grandchildren. He will be missed! Love, Charlene (niece) and Marylou (sister)
