Steven Molde Obituary

Steven R. Molde, 49

St. Cloud

April 15, 1964 - January 30, 2014

A memorial service for Steven R. Molde will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Atonement Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. Steven died from an accident while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. Rev. Erica Kennedy will officiate. Friends and relatives are welcome to call from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, February 7, and one hour prior to services on Saturday, all at Atonement Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, St. Cloud.

Steve was born in Montevideo, Minnesota to Ronald and JoAnn (Brink) Molde. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1982. Steve married Sheila Slagter on Dec. 27, 1985 at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo. He was a graduate of SDSU with a degree in nursing and received his anesthesia training from Mayo School of Health Related Science in Rochester. He was employed as an anesthetist for Anesthesia Associates in St. Cloud for 22 years. He was an active member of Atonement Lutheran Church. For the past 17 years, Steve was a leader in Scouting, serving as a scout master, committee chair, unit commissioner, and was a mentor to many scouts. He loved sailing, hiking, motorcycling, camping, biking, geocaching, canoeing, boating and tennis. He particularly enjoyed the peace of the Boundary Waters and Isle Royale. Steve had a great sense of humor and was always friendly and talkative. He could make a great rhubarb dessert! Steve loved spending time with his family and throwing treats for Potter.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sheila; sons, Joseph (fiancée Carly Dooley) of St. Paul, and Adam of St. Cloud; parents, Ronald and JoAnn of Montevideo; brothers, Brian of St. Paul, and Nathan (Darci) of Montevideo; mother-in-law, Ruth Slagter of Montevideo; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy Schoep (Arvin), Susan Slagter (Jeff Dean), Kay Westlie, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Luther Crest Bible Camp, Atonement Lutheran Church, or Many Point Scout Camp. The family is very thankful for all the prayers that are holding us up at this time.

Steve was a very kind and gentle person, always remembered that the patient came first. I worked with him a few years ago and Steve left a very positive impression on me.

The Molde family has suffered a great loss. A link in the family chain that will forever be missed. I've not known the Molde's for long, but in that short amount of time Steve made me feel as if I was one of them, and had been one of them for many years. His contagious laugh, infectious smile and loving arms are, and will always be, something that I will hold dear to my heart until I am able to meet with him again. Loss is never easy to handle, but a tragic loss as this, contains an unimaginable amount of grief and pain. Please know that I'm here with arms wide open for you Sheila, Joseph, Carly, Adam, Ron, Joanne, Brian, Nathan, Darci, Chris, & Cali if ever you need a Shoulder. Love Brenda

Sheila and family,
I was a classmate of Steve's in Anesthesia School
at The Mayo Clinic. He was such a kind and caring person. Sheila you might remember me as Steve and I were in Jacksonville Florida together in February 1991 for our elective. We had a terrible trip home due to weather and you drove to Minneapolis to pick us up because the airlines could not get us back to Rochester that night. I have very fond memories of Steve as a classmate.
I am so sorry for this great loss and I know he will be deeply missed. May God Bless you and your family.

I had the privilege of working with Steve at St Cloud Hospital. He had a great bedside manner with patients who were about to undergo medical procedures, having a very calming, kind, and respectful manner. St Cloud is poorer for the loss of this gentle and talented man. Condolences to his family and friends.

Steve was one of the nicest people one could ever meet- so personable and always with great conversation. I feel privileged to have known him and work with him. I am so sad for your loss. Steve was just too good for this world, so God needed to take him to His. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers constantly. Praying all your wonderful memories, stories, and Steve's great adventures bring you peace and comfort, and may God bring you strength each day.
